Minimum education

While there are no formal entry requirements the Institute suggests students have sound english language and literacy skills and basic word processing skills. As a guide, students should have completed schooling to Year 10.

Minimum age

Minimum age of 16 years. If students are under 18 years of age, the enrolment form must be signed by a parent or guardian.

English language requirements

Units in this qualification requires students to read comprehensive study workbooks and undertake a range of written assessments and communicate through email and telephone (depending on enrolment type). As such, students should at least have english proficency to year 10 level.

Enrolments are open all year with exception to FAST-TRACK training sessions where students must enrol prior to attending the training date per Fast-Track timetable. See the enrolment process for FAST-TRACK training sessions below.

Enrolment options

1. Full-time (FT) or part-time (PT) external enrolment (distance study)
No class contact with study requiring more than 221 hours per semester (more than 15 hours per week) if full-time or study requiring less than 221 hours per semester (less than 15 hours per week) if part-time. With external enrolment, students will work through a study guide and textbook or resource at their own pace and submit assessments through email. They will receive telephone tutorial support on a regular basis. The qualification must be completed within:

  • Diploma: FT=6 months, PT=12 months
  • Certificate IV: FT=6 months, PT=12 months
  • Certificate I-III: FT=3 months, PT=6 months

2. eLearning enrolment (online LMS)
eLearning involves no class contact and as the name suggests is completed entirely online through a learning management system (LMS). Students login to the Institute eLearning LMS and study and complete assessments within this online system. Students can enrol full-time or part-time.

3. Recognition of prior learning (RPL)
RPL is the formal recognition of skills and knowledge which have been aquired as a result of skills and knowledge which have been aquired as a result of work or life experiences and formal and informal training or qualifications. A successful RPL application where you have demonstrated aptitute in a qualifications "unit of competency" enables one to complete a qualification quicker.

After the RPL process a student/client may:
  • have sufficient recognition credit and be deemed to have completed the qualification;
  • have insufficient recognition credit and will complete any remaining units and assessments to complete the qualification;

4. Fast-track training sessions (face to face classroom)
FAST-TRACK delivered qualifications or short courses can be completed intensively within a pre-arranged one to eigth day in class training block or group of blocks. The length of training is dependant on the qualification or course. Classes are held in either pre-arranged locations or in pre-arranged locations for business/organisations seeking training.

About fees

All fees are based on a scheduled cost per nominal hour (SCH) and this varies depending on delivery method (e.g. FT/PT, RPL, eLearning, Fast-Track). Fees advertised for this course are based on default or scheduled units in the qualification. Students wishing to select or change units should be aware of fee changes due to SCH.

Resource fees

FT/PT external enrolments: students are required to purchase their own textbook(s)/workbook(s)($110). Study guides and other resources are included in the total fee schedule for this qualification.

Fast-Track (face to face) enrolments: The fee schedule for this qualification covers textbooks/workbooks, study guides and resources.

eLearning enrolments: a resource fee of $18.00-22.00 exclGST (cost varies between units) applies to each unit undertaken.

Government funding and incentives
Government funding may exist to cover part or all of the course costs for this qualification. This is dependent on your circumstances. Please enquire with the Institute to see if you qualify for Government funding-incentives.

Fast-Track (face to face) enrolment

Students attending Fast-Track training will be directly supported by the lecturer in the classroom or workshop. When face to face training is complete, students are required to submit any outstanding assessments before the completion date. During this time, lecturers will set up telephone support with individual students.

Full-time/Part-time external enrolment (distance study)

For students externally enrolled, study will be support by allocated tutors who will contact them regularly, generally fortnightly. A support timetable will be determined between the tutor and student at the beginning of the course. Tutoring sessions are opportunties to discuss study material and clarify any issues.

eLearning enrolment (online LMS)

For students enrolled in eLearning, study will be support by allocated tutors who will answer any questions through the online correspondance system or through telephone support.

What is RPL?

RPL is the formal recognition of skills and knowledge which have been acquired as a result of work experience, life experience, and previous formal or informal training. If you believe you are competent in any of the qualifications units, you may wish to apply for RPL. If successful, you can obtain credit for units reducing the time it will take to complete the qualification. Gap training is provided as part of the RPL process for a unit.

How to apply

Firstly, read the Institutes RPL Information Kit to familiarise yourself with the process. Contact an Institute course advisor if you have further questions. We strongly suggest you request and undergo the qualifications RPL self-assessment to help you guage if you are ready and have sufficient evidence to successfully RPL the courses units.

When you are sure about committing to RPL, download and complete an Enrolment form (Form: CS.FOR.019), tick the RPL box and fill in the required details. The Institute will then action the RPL process.

Standard exemptions and credit transfers

Students may be granted credit for the completion of formal accredited learning with a school, University or other accredited Registered training organisation such as TAFE. If you have academic qualifications, you may wish to apply for an exemption from the relevant “Unit of competency” (UOC) within a course or qualification.
